A little about Women Leaders Series (WLS)—it’s a workshop that’s fun, dynamic, and effective. WLS is designed to help women like you perfect the leadership skills you already have, no matter your field, age, or stage of professional development.
As for me, I’m Emily Lampkin, the Founder of WLS. For over 25 years, I’ve been guiding women in their leadership development, offering practical advice and support across corporate, non-profit, education, and political sectors. I’ve had the privilege of training thousands of women worldwide through this workshop—and I can’t wait to share my insights with you here.
With that, let's get started.
Best,
Emily Lampkin

1. Selling You pitch.
Unlike traditional elevator pitches, a Selling You pitch combines storytelling with a direct ask. This approach allows you to connect on a personal level and confidently articulate what you need.
Here’s how to craft a concise, direct pitch that blends your story with your ask:
Who You Are (with Storytelling):
Start by sharing a brief story that highlights your experience. For example:
Your name, a story about your work and/or interests should take 60 seconds or less.
Your Ask:
Then, make your ask:
"I’m currently looking for [specific opportunity/support/connection], and I would appreciate your insight to help me reach the next step."
This pitch not only conveys what you do but also draws people in through storytelling, building rapport, and showcasing confidence. The clear, direct ask ensures that you position yourself to gain the support or opportunity you’re seeking.
1. Make LinkedIn Your Networking Hub
Ensure your LinkedIn profile highlights your skills, experience, and accomplishments. Post regularly, engage with others' content, and join groups relevant to your industry. Focus on consistency—spend 2-3 minutes each weekday morning building and engaging with your network. This can include liking posts, connnecting with individuals with shared interests, commenting thoughtfully, or sharing relevant content.
2. Use LinkedIn for Connection Follow-UpsEstablish a method to circle back with new connections on LinkedIn to keep the relationship warm. After connecting, use customizable message templates to quickly thank them for connecting, highlight a shared interest, or share a relevant resource. Set reminders in your calendar or LinkedIn to follow up after a few weeks with a simple message—this could be sharing a new article, offering a quick update, or just checking in. This method ensures your follow-ups remain personal and efficient while maintaining a consistent touchpoint with your network.
1. Decide That You’re Not Giving Up on What You WantThe first step is a mindset shift. Make a commitment to yourself that you won’t give up on what truly matters to you—no matter how little time you have. This decision sets the tone for everything that follows. Remember, it’s not about having it all now, but making steady progress towards what you want for yourself.
2. Create a Simple, Individualized Plan of ActionJot down a straightforward plan that's realistic for you right now—no need for advanced tools or complex strategies. Open the notes app on your phone and outline a few key steps that will help you move forward. Then begin putting this individualized plan for success today.
3. Start Today, No Perfect Timing NeededChoose the first step from your plan and take action today—no waiting for ideal circumstances like losing weight, getting the promotion, or until your kids go to college. Progress happens when you start, even if it’s just one small action.
